To put unwanted books into the hands of those who want them. That’s the mission of The Book Thing, located in the Waverly Neighborhood in Baltimore. With roughly 200,000 books on its shelves, donated by various organizations and individuals, the non-profit offers free books to all. No limit — you can take as many as you’d like. And there are books for all ages.
If you love to get lost browsing for a treasure among shelves of books, this is the place for you. The only rule is that every book has to be stamped “Not For Resale.” The Book Thing is open every single weekend and is run by volunteers. If you have any books, magazines, records, CDs, DVDs, phones, photographs or tablets you’d like to give away, The Book Thing accepts donations Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm. There is also 24/7 donation drop-off.
Here are the details:

The Book Thing also keeps free books for all ages on bookcases at the nearby Peabody Heights Brewery, located at the old Oriole Park site at 301 East 30th Street. Its hours are 5pm to 9pm Wednesdays and Fridays and 11am to 4pm Saturdays.
