To best experience the symphonies of Finland’s national icon, Sibelius, you should hear them as conducted by Hannu Lintu, a fellow Finn and one of the world’s consummate Sibelius interpreters. With the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Lintu will take you through the delicately beautiful and mysterious No. 6 and then Sibelius’ final symphony, No. 7, with one of the most powerful endings in classical music.
Norwegian trumpet virtuoso, Tine Thing Helseth, will join the BSO for a stunning showpiece: the popular Hummel Trumpet Concerto, and she’ll stick around for the North American premiere of Penderecki’s Concertino for Trumpet and Orchestra.
